August 3 - 13, 2017
Opening Reception: Thursday, August 3rd, 6-9PM
"I work in painting using photographs from the private and public realm as source material. They are usually collaged, worked and evolve as the painting does. I have been exploring how memory connects us as people. When one can relate to another’s memory by looking at an image, it creates a sense of identification. Hopefully the emotions solicited from looking can repair some discord. The paintings are always based on a portrait- A portrait of a person or a portrait of a place, a building. Blue Memory is about growing up in the suburbs during the mass migrations of city dwellers to urban borders. I have also been pre-occupied with the question- Are we the same or are we different? Well.. yes. We are different in our lived experience of course, but somehow… the same. I try to find threads of thought and weave them into commentary on life’s musings and tragedies."
