Eric Doeringer is a multimedia artist based in New
York, NY whose artwork addresses issues of illegality, the art market, and the intersection between subculture and popular culture in America.
"For the past few years I have been creating �bootleg� copies of contemporary artwork. The series includes paintings, sculpture, photographs, drawings, collage, and video. All together, I have created copies of work by more than 70 different artists.I have exhibited the Bootlegs in museums and art galleries, but usually I sell them on the street in New York�s Chelsea gallery district or outside of other art world events (the Liste Fair in Switzerland, the Whitney Biennial, etc.). Like the vendors of bootleg CDs and handbags, I sell my pieces at a fraction of the prices charged by �legitimate� galleries (although with some sacrifice
