Opening Reception December 1st, 2018 12pm-12am
MULHERIN TORONTO is pleased to present new works by Tina Radulovic.
“My paintings are inspired by the analysis of behaviours in people. There are certain situations that I consider very repulsive. Countless people who I have had bad experiences with appear in my paintings and drawings as faces and characters. Through visual styling I try emphasize their feelings and movements in relation to everyday objects. Although my paintings are figurative, they can be observed as abstract images. Colour plays an important role in the work, so I push myself to create a visual language that is inexhaustible in it’s potential variations. It's interesting to me to try to create an unreal world that is somehow realistic given the situation in a particular moment, while considering the past and future. The characters in my paintings are frozen and are therefore eternal. Satire and comedy is represented through the awkward exchanges of people living potentially superficial lives. I attempt to portray their most sincere moments, unaware that they are being observed and carefree. While the paintings seem funny, I am in fact also articulating a condemnation of a human character that begs the question "Why is someone better than me?"
